Yes children learn sounds and starts imitating the sound and the phonetic patterns but at times the time duration where the child starts imitating the sound delays which is the cause of worry...and the increasing nuclear families and the interactions the family members have among themselves shrinked as most of them become gadjet addicted, opportunity for the children to hear and imitate cause further delay.

Let me share a story of a child--- the child's parents are multilingual ---- he learnt to speak in English from a very young age by watching cartoons in television . So, story telling, listening to rhymes, watching TV etc are some factors that children have a natural inclination for learning language. Language can't be taught forcefully, it been learnt at its own span.

  81. Children learn to communicate easily than adults. Children learn a language by sounds. The ‘morpheme’ as the smallest discrete chunks the words can be broken into. To make sense of the words, the child should know where one word ends and the other word begins- the ‘word boundaries’.
    Learning through the medium of language happens when the ‘immersion of language’ happens in the classroom. The language immersion is a technique which later becomes a process as the child decodes the words when the words are shown by the teacher- phonemes, phonemic awareness, phonics etc follows; decoding the words as a whole seems to be easier for the child than learning letter by letter. while singing a rhyme/ reading a book/ teaching phonics.
    When reading out books for the children becomes a regular practice, the child gains the benefit of learning a new language. Whereas, the child is naturally aware of the mother tongue and can communicate with semantic and apply grammatic rules.
    The natural inclination of feeling to make friends and to acquire the need from its immediate environment necessitates the learning of a language through the medium of language too. It is in the hands of the parent and the teacher to deliver and bring out the best from the little mind that will cater to the big world.
